Cornus capitata

This tree is not called Arbutus unedo. The trouble with coming into Professional horticulture as a thirty something is that my brain is rubbish. Everyone else in the garden has twenty years of plant knowledge under their belt, I’m trying desperately to just get a good working knowledge and mostly failing. But I try. I once called this Arbutus unedo, pppfffttt.. what a pleb!

Anyway, it turns out this is a really gorgeous tree, with almost comical, characterful ‘flowers’, (technically flower clusters surrounded by coloured bracts) and jolly, weirdy fruit. It’s also evergreen, with classy lanceolate’ish leaves with nicely pronounced veining. It has a nice, slightly scruffy habit, personally something I prefer to very ‘organised’ looking trees.
